My love for words started very early—standing in line as a kid at midnight book releases, marveling at the thousands upon thousands of words in my hands that made up an entire world. I knew very early on that I wanted to be a part of that world of words.
I am the son of a screenwriter father and a book-loving mother, so language was always part of the background music of my life. I’ve always loved learning and editing has become the place where that curiosity thrives. Every manuscript teaches me something new—about language, about storytelling, about how other people see the world.
My editing career began in journalism as an in-house editor, where I had the privilege of working in a newsroom that spanned the globe. The lessons I learned there have stayed with me and continue to inform how I work with authors today.
Since transitioning to publishing, I have worked with small presses, hybrid publishers, and independent authors to help bring captivating and polished manuscripts into the world. I specialize in line-level copyediting for both fiction and nonfiction books. I care deeply about the mechanics of writing—grammar, syntax, punctuation, consistency, and style—but I also care just as deeply about creating a positive editing experience for the authors I work with, from beginning to end.
I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and a co-coordinator of the San Diego chapter, where I’m passionate about demystifying the often invisible work editors do. Editing, at its best, is a labor of love—quiet, precise, intentional. When it’s done well, most readers won’t notice it at all. But they will always feel the difference.
When I’m not editing, I’m usually doing the same things that make me a good editor: noticing patterns in the world, constantly asking questions, always suggesting improvements (much to my husband’s delight), and paying attention to the small details that make all the difference. Mostly, I’m playing with my goofy golden retriever, Lotso (named after the Toy Story 3 character).
One of my favorite quotes of all time is from Stephen King in his book On Writing. He says, “Books are a uniquely portable magic,” and I have always believed that to be true. I would love to help bring your magic into the world.
